Farm Soil Carbon Code

The Sustainable Soils Alliance is working with a consortium of leading experts to develop a UK Farm Soil Carbon Code, a set of formal protocols that allow farmers to quantify, qualify and verify reduced GHG emissions and/or soil carbon capture as a result of adopting regenerative farming practices.

The Code will be straightforward, practical, free to use and open access to all farmers. It will be applicable for different ‘carbon accounting’ purposes – offsets, insets, ecosystem services and environmental investment products - whether carbon capture will be monetised or not.

The Consortium is currently seeking financial support from individual, public and private sources to develop the Code which it estimates could generate revenues of up to £500 million per year for the farming sector.
